SEX WORKER SYMPOSIUM - CANTERBURY 2019

Sex workers are a classed as a 'vulnerable' section of society and thus have certain rights to protect them.

But do these rights, and this label, perpetuate the stigma and stereotype that sex workers themselves are “vulnerable”; that they are trafficked, forced, or manipulated into their choice of career?

The reality of sex workers in modern Britain is that of empowered men and women employing the digital era of online work, as well as making safe, and informed choices to pursue a career in other aspects of the adult sex industry.

This symposium celebrated a group of eloquent and experienced sex workers, giving them a space and voice to inform others of the true realities of modern sex work.

This open dialogue brought to the forefront, important discussions about bodily, economic and emotional autonomy.

From each speaker, each example and each anecdote, is an underlying need for respect of individual choices.

This discussion panel goes beyond that of informing and creating dialogue about sex work, identifying topics of our societal moralistic view of labour.

This discussion for sex workers' rights is an exemplification of the objectification, and societal control of bodily autonomy as well as the oppressive denial of a women’s sexual pleasure.

PANEL SPEAKER - HEATHERRAN

Heatherran discusses online sex work and the community spirit she has felt within her industry.

PANEL SPEAKER - BEN

A final panel discussion between the audience and speakers.
